Keith R. A. DiCandido (kradical) has had some really awesome posts about "canon." Apparently when people start arguing about his work in ST he gets cranky because he thinks arguing about what is true in a fictional universe is just silly. I tend to agree. I think you should take what you like, find your own truth, and move on. It's not always meant to agree : )
