Sigh.

If I shave with an electric razor, the skin under my jaw stays rough and stubbly, and becomes raw and irritated as well, to the point where I can't wear a high-collared shirt without going insane.

If I shave with a blade, I get a reasonably smooth surface under there, but one covered with tiny drops of blood where the skin there is apparently just uneven enough to take a dozen tiny nicks every time. I can wear collared shirts, but they better be dark if I don't want the stains to show.

I despise shaving.

So, what type of blades are you using? Have you considered using the sensitive skin-type razors? Those are a little more expensive, but they are a little kinder than your standard 10-pack for $1. :) (I know this because I use men's razors to shave my legs -- ladies' razors suck boulders.)

Right now, I'm using Gillette Mach 3 blades with the skin-lube strip. It's the first blade razor I've found that really goes through my hardwood beard hair efficiently (still makes a sound like sandpaper across a turntable needle, though).

Maybe I'll have to check out the sensitive-skin kind, I'm willing to try anything right now.

You could always nair your face...

Belive it or not, I have actually briefly considered that from time to time... the main reason I've never even tried is that as sensitive as my skin is, I have the idea that sulfuric acid would be less damaging and painful than Nair (which I've heard horror stories of). I'm not in a hurry to try either.

Oh man I am so with you there. My skin isn't as sensitive, well the shirts don't bother me. I've discovered since coming to Japan that the best shave for me is to take my electric shaver (Norelco Advantage) into the shower with me. The hot water goes a long way to prep your skin for the trauma, and the goop that the Advantage provides helps even more.

Though sometimes I overdo it with that and wind up bleeding from my electric shave. Damn this sucks.

If you despise shaving, don't! :) Especially for people with sensitive skin, a quick trim once a week is less trauma, less often...
